ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance is essential if your child is to reach full potential.  If your child is to be absent through illness or family bereavement PLEASE ring the school between 8.30 and 9.00.  We phone and check all un-notified absences daily.

For some students and their families regular attendance of school is an issue. High levels of non-attendance at primary school affects achievement and sets a bad example for later schooling. There is countless research that links non-attendance (truancy) with lower outcomes in later life – including criminal activity, substance abuse, and unemployment. Many of the students with high non-attendance levels are absent because parents are keeping their children away from school far too often and for reasons that are not justified.

In an effort to raise attendance levels, the school is participating in a community project called RAAYS (Raising Achievement Across Youth Sector). The aim of RAAYS is to identify those students and their families with high levels of absence, and with the help of external agencies, assist the family in getting improvement. Agencies involved in the project include the Police, Child Youth & Family, Health & Education officials.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The school is supported by a capable Board of Trustees.  Meetings are monthly and advertised in the newsletter.  Parents are most welcome to attend meetings.  Our Chairperson is Alan Poad.

BICYCLES

It is not considered safe for children under 8 to ride to school.  All children must wear safety helmets as required by law.

CHILDREN'S BEHAVIOUR (BULLYING)
We believe every child has the right to come to school happy and spend a pleasant day learning and playing without being interrupted or hassled. We have a no tolerance policy to bullying. We actively promote kind and considerate behaviour. So, if your child is not happy - let us know, and if your child is responsible for hassling or interrupting others’ learning, your support is expected to resolve the issue.

COMMUNICATIONS

It is commonly known that the greater the partnership and communication between parents and school the greater the probability that your child will be successful.  Your first approach should always be to the classroom teacher.  Teachers are generally available before and after school, although because of meetings, appointments are preferred.   PLEASE do not expect to talk to the Teacher during class time and immediately before school starts.   The Principal is always available for appointments or you can just “pop in”.
IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS PLEASE TELL US IMMEDIATELY

DENTAL THERAPIST (Dental Nurse)
All students who are new enrolments will have their teeth checked by a Dental Therapist.  Other students at the school will also have the opportunity to have their teeth checked when the therapists are on site.   For emergency treatment please phone 567 7599.

HEALTH NURSE

The Public Health Nurse is available to see your child with health concerns at your request either by phoning 570 9131 or by visiting her Health Clinic which is run at our school every Thursday morning.

LATENESS

A child needs to be at school 5 minutes before the bell to unpack and prepare for school.  A late child disrupts the learning of all others in the class.   We want the students forming good habits early in their schooling, and you can help by having them here on time.
